In addition, our founder, Professor Menachem Nathan, has first-hand experience filing and registering his own patents as well as hundreds of patents for many clients.

Meet the Team

Founded in 2009 and led by Professor Menachem Nathan, Nathan & Associates is one of Israel’s leading high-tech patent firms. We are proud to bring our expertise and passion to the high-tech world, for which we have drafted and handled more than 1000 of high-tech patents for clients.

Notably, we have worked with a number of high-profile clients that have made major headlines and gains with their patents. Professor Nathan has personally had a hand in the following:

Handled most of the patents for an Israeli startup, which was later acquired by a Fortune 500 semiconductors company for $300 million.

Obtained multiple patents for an Israeli startup which were later sold for $250,000.

Drafted and prosecuted smartphone camera patents used in an infringement litigation case against Apple Inc.

Handled most of the patents for an Israeli optical communications company that was then acquired by another Fortune 500 company.

Menachem
Nathan, PhD

Founder and Managing Partner

An inventor with nearly 40 patents of his own and Emeritus Professor of Electrical Engineering at Tel Aviv University, Prof. Nathan serves as the managing partner of Nathan & Associates and is a registered US patent agent.

Before this latest foray into patents, Prof. Nathan had a decades-long career in academia and research. He began his studies in Israel where he obtained a BSc and a MSc in Mechanical Engineering at the Technion in Haifa. He then received his PhD in Materials Science from Cornell University in the United States. Later, he worked as a researcher for IBM Research Laboratories and Martin Marietta (now Martin Lockheed).

Due to his multi-faceted background in research, technology, and academia, Prof. Nathan is able to bring a unique perspective and expertise to patent drafting and prosecution before the USPTO and international patent offices, in complex high-tech subject areas like autonomous vehicle technologies, cyber security, cameras, electronics, semiconductor technologies, nanotechnologies, mechanical devices, and much more.

Daniela
Levin, Adv.

Head of Growth

Daniela Levin is a certified attorney member of the Israel Bar Association and a graduate of Bar Ilan University (LL.B.) Prior to entering the field of law, Daniela developed a specialty in technology working in several high-tech companies in addition to her employment serving in the military in the prestigious IDF Intelligence unit (8200).

As Head of Growth at Nathan & Associates, she is responsible for seeking out new business opportunities and overseeing the overall management of the firm’s guidelines and strategies, as well as representing clients before the Israel Patent Office.

Joe Cherson

Patent Attorney

Joe Cherson is a licensed Israel Patent Attorney and registered US Patent Agent with more than 15 years intellectual property practice. He specializes in tech areas including telecommunications & networks, computers, microchip technology, digital signal processing, power systems, mobile devices, imaging systems. video systems, control systems, algorithm-based systems, robotics, Internet, bio-medical devices, and alternative energy sources.

Joe has extensive experience drafting and prosecuting patent and trademark applications, developing IP strategy and building IP portfolio for both start-up and established technology companies, conducting due-diligence investigations and freedom-to-operate studies, performing searches, and more. His work experience spans more than 35 years  in diverse tech areas including as a major consultant to the largest defense industries in Israel assisting them interface with the US Government  and as a technology transfer expert to agro-tech companies in Israel setting up BTO projects in Europe.

Joe possesses an Electronics Engineering Bachelors of Science degree from Tufts University in Massachusetts, and completed numerous courses at Tel Aviv University towards an advanced degree in Electronics Engineering.

Avi
Turiel, BSc

Patent Attorney

Avi provides result-oriented patent drafting covering a broad range of technologies including software, telecoms, internet security, mobile apps, mechanical devices, medical devices, and electronics and has extensive experience with patent and trademark prosecution in many countries.

Avi began his professional career working for Eskom, the South African electricity utility as a telecoms engineer.  Since moving to Israel in 1996 Avi has worked in senior product management and product marketing roles in large hi-tech companies as well as startups, two of which were acquired.  Avi’s 20-plus years of experience with Israeli hi-tech and startup culture is invaluable in understanding and guiding the patent strategy of the entrepreneurial clients of Nathan and Associates.

Avi holds a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and is licensed to practice as a patent attorney by the Israel Patent and Trademark Office.

Talya
Efrati, MD

Consultant, Medical Technologies

Talya Efrati is a graduate of Tel Aviv University Medical School and is currently a Resident in Neurology at a major hospital in Tel Aviv. During her MD studies, she held the position of office manager with Nathan & Associates, becoming fluent in all aspects of filing and docketing patent applications and interactions with national and international patent offices.

After obtaining her medical degree, Talya worked as an IP consultant to a medical device venture capital firm. She now serves as medical technologies IP consultant for Nathan & Associates.

Amir
Regev

Head Paralegal

Amir serves as Head Paralegal at Nathan & Associates, where he oversees all filing and docketing activities while managing the paralegal team. He holds a dual B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry with an emphasis on nanotechnology, which he acquired from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, and is currently completing his M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering.

Amir is a veteran of the IDF Intelligence Corps, where he served as a Senior Intelligence Analyst. Prior to joining Nathan & Associates, he gained experience as a Research Analyst at several Business Intelligence companies. Amir is fluent in both English and Hebrew, and has vast expertise in computer systems, as well as IP search and analysis skills, which makes him a highly adept and resourceful member of our team.
